Problem 5: The nth term of an A.P. is 6n + 2. Find the common difference.

In this question we have been given that nth term of an A. P. is 6n+2. Now we have to find the common difference.

    Now putting n = 1, 2, 3, 4 we get,

    a1 = 6.1 + 2 = 8

    a2 = 6.2 + 2 = 14

    a3 = 6.3 + 2 = 20

    a4 = 6.4 + 2 = 26

    We can see that,

    a2 – a1 = 14 – (8) = 6

    a3 – a2 = 20 – (14) = 6

    a4 – a3 = 26 – (20) = 6

    Hence, the common difference is 6
