a = 4, d = – 3. Find the first four terms of the A.P.

The following Problem is from Arithmetic Progression in NCERT, Excercise 5.1 question no. 2 (iii). In this question you have to derive the 1st four terms of the A.P which will be formed by the above information.

  1. Solution:

    a = 4, d = – 3

    Let the A.P be a1, a2, a3, a4, a5 …

    a1 = a = 4

    a2 = a1+d = 4-3 = 1

    a3 = a2+d = 1-3 = – 2

    a4 = a3+d = -2-3 = – 5

    First four terms of A.P. are 4, 1, – 2 and – 5.
