Question 13. Find the sum:(iv) 1 + 3 + 5 + 7 + . . . + 199

In this question we have been given an arithmetic progression. And we have to find out sum of this progression.

  1. Given series is an A.P. with first term(a) = 1,

    Common difference(d) = 3 − 1 = 2 and nth term(an) = 199.

    We know nth term of an A.P. is given by, an = a + (n − 1)d.

    => 199 = 1 + (n − 1)(2)

    => 199 = 1 + 2n − 2

    => n = 200/2

    => n = 100

    Also we know sum of n terms of an A.P. is given by Sn = n[a + an]/2.

    S100 = 100[1 + 199]/2

    = 50(200) = 10000

    Hence, the sum of terms of the given series is 10000.
