This is an important ques from the Book ML Aggarwal class 10th,, chapter – 7, ratio and proportion.
In this question we have been given the four numbers that are in continued proportion, two of them are unknown, so we have to find the both of the numbers
Question 5 7.2
Solution:
It is given that
a, 12, 16 and b are in continued proportion
a/12 = 12/16 = 16/b
We know that
a/12 = 12/16
By cross multiplication
16a = 144
a = 144/16 = 9
Similarly
12/16 = 16/b
By cross multiplication
12b = 16 × 16 = 256
b = 256/12 = 64/3 = 21 1/3
Therefore, a = 9 and b = 64/3 or 21 1/3.
