This is the Important question of class 10 Based on Equation of a Straight Line Chapter of M.L Aggarwal book for ICSE BOARD.
Here you have to find the equation of line passing through the point (2, – 5) and making an intercept of – 3 on the y-axis.
I have confusion in this question so please solve it.
This is the Question Number 13 , Exercise 12.1 of M.L Aggarwal.

  1. Given, a line equation passes through point (2, -5) and makes a y-intercept of -3

    We know that,

    The equation of line is y = mx + c, where m is the slope and c is the y-intercept

    So, we have

    y = mx – 3

    Now, this line equation will satisfy the point (2, -5)

    -5 = m (2) – 3

    -5 = 2m – 3

    2m = 3 – 5 = -2

    ⇒ m = -1

    Hence, the equation of the line is y = -x + (-3) ⇒ x + y + 3 = 0
