A spherical ball of diameter 21 cm is melted and recast into cubes, each of side 1 cm. Find the number of cubes so formed.

In the given problem shape of the object is spherical to find answer of this question need to use sphere volume formula. Question from RS Aggarwal book chapter volume and surface area of solid, page number 810, exercise 17B, problem number 14

  1. Given data in problem

    Diameter of the spherical ball= 21 cm

    Radius of the ball = 21/2 cm = 10.5 cm

    Volume of spherical ball = [4/3] πr³

    = [4/3] × π × [10.5]³

    = 4851 cm³

    Volume of each cube = 1³      [ side = 1 ……given ]

    = 1 cm³

    Number of cubes = Volume of spherical ball / Volume of each cube

    = 4851 / 1

    = 4851

    ∴ 4851  cubes are formed
