A solid metal cone with base radius of 12 cm and height 24 cm is melted to form solid spherical balls of diameter 6 cm each. Find the number of balls thus formed

In the given problem cone shape is given to find answer of this question need use cone volume formula and last time this problem was asked in 2005 cbse board exam. Problem from RS Aggarwal book page number 809 problem number 4. chapter volume and surface area of solid.

    Radius of the cone = 12 cm

    Height of the cone = 24 cm

    Volume of cone = [1/3] πr²h

    = [1/3] × [22/7] × [12]² × 24

    = 48 ×24 × [22/7]  cm³

    Radius of each ball = 3 cm

    Volume of each ball = [4/3] πr³

    = [4/3] [22/7] × 3³

    = 36 [22/7] cm³

    Total number of balls formed by melting the cone = Volume of cone / Volume of a ball

    = (48 ×24 × [22/7] )/ (36 [22/7] )

    = 32

    ∴ 32 balls are  formed
