In this question they give a medicine capsule is in the shape of a cylinder with two hemispheres stuck to each of its ends. It is the combination of cylinder and hemisphere structure by using there surface area formulas we will get answer of this question. this question from RS Aggarwal book problem number 19 page number 788 chapter volume and surface area of solid.

  1. Given data,

Radius (r) of cylindrical part = Radius (r) of hemispherical part

Length of cylindrical part (h) = Length of the entire capsule – 2 × r

    = 14 – 5

    = 9 cm

Surface area of capsule = [2 × Curved Surface Area of hemispherical part]+ Curved Surface Area of cylindrical part

    = 2 * 2πr² + 2πrh

    = (2 * 2 [22/7] * [2.5] * [2.5] ) + 2 [22/7] * 2.5 * 9

    = (44 * 2.5 * 2) mm²

    = 220 mm²

∴ Surface Area of capsule is 220 mm²
