Hello, It is not a modal function. It is a modulus function. We can have modulus function in fractions like mod(-0.5) will give us answer as 0.5 and so on. We also have modulus in fractional functions as in |  (x-1) / (x-2)  | which inverts all the negative parts of the function as positive i.e. reflect them about x-axis on the graph.
