The sum of two numbers is 137 and their difference is 43. Find the numbers.

  1. Let the two numbers be x and y.
    x+y=137
    x-y=43
    By elimination method,
    2x=180
    x=90
    Substitute the value of x ,
    x+y=137
    y=137-90
    =47
