Solve the equations graphically: 2x-5y+4=0, 2x+y-8=0

  • 1

An important and exam oriented question from linear equations in two variables as it was already asked in previous year paper of 2005 in which we have given that 2x-5y+4=0, 2x+y-8=0 and we have been asked to solve these equations graphically

RS Aggarwal, Class 10, chapter 3A, question no 4

  1. 2x5y+4=0….(1)
    2x+y8=0……(2)

    Isolate x from equation (1) and find the value of x and y.
    2x5y+4=0
    or 2x=5y4
    x=(5y4)/2

    x:   2    3  8
    y:      0    2  4

    Similarly, isolate x from equation (2) and find the values of x and y.
    2x+y8=0
    or y=82x

    x:   1   2   3
    y:   6  4   2

    Graph:
    Both the lines intersect each other at point (3,2).
    So, x=3,y=2
