Find the value of k for which x=1 is a root of the equation x²+kx+3=0. Also find the other root.

This is the basic and conceptual question from quadratic equation chapter in which we have given an equation x²+kx+3=0 and it is also given that x=1 and we have to find the value of k and also asked to find the other root of the equation

Kindly give me a detailed solution of this question

  1. +kx+3=0……………….(i)

    Since x=1 is the root therefore, x=1 satisfies the eqn.(i)
    (1+k(1)+3=0
    k+4=0
    k=4
    Therefore, +(4)x+3=4x+3
    Hence, the roots are 3xx+3=0
    x(x3)1(x3)=0
    (x1)(x3)=0
    Therefore, x=1,3
