An Important Question of class 10 Based on Mensuration Chapter of M.L Aggarwal for ICSE BOARD.
A wooden article was made by scooping out a hemisphere from each end of a solid cylinder.
If the height of the cylinder and its base radius is given, then find the total surface area of the article.
This is the Question Number 08, Exercise 17.4 of M.L Aggarwal.
Given height of the cylinder, h = 10 cm
Radius of the cylinder, r = 3.5 cm
Radius of the hemisphere = 3.5 cm
Total surface area of the article = curved surface area of the cylinder + curved surface area of 2 hemispheres
= 2rh + 2× 2r2
= 2r(h+2r)
= 2×(22/7)×3.5×(10+2×3.5)
= (154/7)×(10+7)
= 22×17
= 374 cm2
Hence the total surface area of the article is 374 cm2.
