Solve the equations graphically and find the vertices and the area of the triangle formed by these lines and the x-axis: 4x-3y+4=0, 4x+3y-20=0

  • 0

One of the most important and exam oriented question as it was already asked in previous year paper of 2008 in which we have given that 4x-3y+4=0, 4x+3y-20=0 and we have to solve the equations graphically and also asked to find the vertices and the area of the triangle formed by these lines and the x-axis

  1. 4x3y+4=0….(1)
    4x+3y20=0……(2)

Isolate x from equation (1) and find the value of x and y.
    4x3y+4=0
    or x=(3y4)/4

         x      y
      1      0
        2      4
    4   4

Similarly, isolate x from equation (2) and find the values of x and y.
    4x+3y20=0
    or x=(203y)/4

        x   y
        5   0
       2   4
    1    8

    Graph:
Both the lines intersect each other at point (2,4) and x axis at A(1,0) and D(5,0).
Find the area of triangle BAD:
    Area of BAD=1/2(base×altitude)
    =1/2×6×4
    =12 sq.units.
