Solve the equations graphically: 2x+3y=2, x-2y=8

  • 0

One of the most important and exam oriented question as it was already asked in previous year paper of 2008 in which we have been asked to solve the given equations graphically and the given equation is 2x+3y=2, x-2y=8

  1. Graph of 2x + 3y = 2 :

    Put x = 1, then y = 0
    Put x = 4, then y  = -2
    Put x = -2, then y  = 2

Plot the three points (-2,2) , (1,0) and (4,-2) on the graph paper.

Join all these points using a single line , and hence we get the line 2x + 3y = 2.

    Graph of x – 2y = 8 :

    Put x = 2, then y = -3
    Put x = 4, then y = -2
    Put x = 0, then y = -4

Plot the three points (2,-3) , (4,-2) and (0,-4) on the graph paper.
Join all these points using a single line , and hence we get the line x – 2y = 8.

As shown in the graph above both lines intersect at (4,-2).

So, x = 4 and y = -2 , is the solution of the given system of equations.
