If the nth term of a progression is (4n – 10) show that it is an AP. Find its (i) first term, (ii) common difference (iii) 16 the term.

An important question from arithmetic progression chapter in which we have been asked to find its (i) first term, (ii) common difference (iii) 16 the term. If the nth term of a progression is (4n – 10) show also that it is an AP.

  1. Given nth term of AP is 4n10
    Putting n=1,2,3,4,....., we get
    At n=1:4n10=4×110=410=6
    At n=2:4n10=4×210=810=2
    At n=3:4n10=4×310=1210=2
    At n=1:4n10=4×410=1610=6
    We see that 6,2,2,6,... are in AP as common difference is same.
    Common difference =2(6)=4.
